Enroll in Brightspace Groups

Joining a group in D2L Brightspace allows you to collaborate with your peers on projects and discussions. This guide will walk you through the process of self-enrolling in a group within your course.

Step 1: Access Group Enrollment

  1. Log in to D2L Brightspace: Start by logging into your D2L Brightspace account using your username and password.
  2. Access your course: Use the Select a Course menu at the top of the page to find and access your course.
  3. Find Group Enrollment Links: Once on your course homepage you can find links to sign up for group by clicking Other Tools > Groups > View Available Groups.

Step 2: Review Group Options

  1. View Group Categories: On the Group Selection page, review the available group categories. Each category may represent different group activities or projects.
  2. Check the Expiry Date: The Expiry Date indicates the deadline by which you must enroll in a group. If you do not choose a group by this date, you may be automatically assigned to one.
  3. Review Group Details: In the Group Table, you can see details about each group, including:
    • Group description
    • Number of members already enrolled

Step 3: Select a Group

  1. View Group Members (Optional): To see who has already enrolled in a group, click on the number associated with that group in the table.
  2. Choose Your Group: Once you’ve reviewed the options, select the group you want to join.
  3. Click Select: After choosing your group, click the "Select" button to confirm your choice.

Step 4: Confirm Your Enrollment

  1. Confirm Group Enrollment: After clicking "Select," confirm your enrollment in the group. You will receive a confirmation message indicating that you are now enrolled.
  2. Review Group Information: Once enrolled, you can review the members of your group. If set up by your instructor, you may also see related resources such as:
    • Assignment submission folders
    • Group discussions
    • Locker areas for shared files

Step 5: Communicate with Group Members

  1. Use the Email Icon: If available, click the email icon associated with your group to draft an email to all group members. This is useful for coordinating and communicating about your group project.
  2. Leave a Group (Optional): If you enrolled in a group but decide to leave it, check if the option to leave is available. Some courses allow you to switch groups if needed.

Step 6: Explore Additional Groups (Optional)

  1. View Available Groups: To see if there are other groups you can join, click "View Available Groups."

Join Another Group: Review the available options and click "Join Group" to enroll in another group if your course allows participation in multiple groups.
