Meal Plan Request Form
Starting in the Spring 2026 term, NLU is excited to offer the Dining Dollars meal plan option to Chicago campus students.
Students who receive financial aid may be eligible to use financial aid funds to purchase Dining Dollars each term that can be used at the new Skylight Café on the 12th floor at 18 S. Michigan or at the Daily Grind Coffee Shops at either 18 S. Michigan or 122 S. Michigan. Students can choose to apply either $100 or $200 of their financial aid award to purchase Dining Dollars.
Campus Dining Loyalty Program
- Dining Dollars Value – Pre-load funds onto your University ID and enjoy easy, cashless dining at the Skylight Cafe and Daily Grind plus get extra value when you load more. For every $100 loaded on your ID card, you will receive $25 in additional funds to spend.
- Dine More, Get More – When you purchase 5 combo lunch meals in the Skylight Café, you get the 6th one free. Must be a designated combo lunch meal. Funds purchased through the Dining Dollars value plan can be used to buy the combo meals.
-
In order to be eligible for Dining Dollars in the Summer 2026 term, students must:
- Have complete financial aid documentation on file by June 30, 2026
- Have financial aid funding still available after paying for Spring tuition, fees and other related expenses to attend school at the University, and
- Complete the application by June 30, 2026
Funds will be made available the first day of each term.
Students who cannot or do not utilize financial aid funds to participate in the meal plan can choose to use a debit or credit card to pre-load Dining Dollars to their Student Identification Card at webpurchase.nl.edu.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- What if you lose your ID card after you add funds to it?
- The new card issued to you will have the funds that you had on the lost card.
- What happens to unused funds (for students using financial aid or in general if a student/staff/faculty adds money to their ID and then does not use all funds)?
- Students will have up to a year to use funds on a card. Funds can be used for the Café or the Daily Grind (for both food and beverage or swag).
- If a student who signs up to use financial aid initially chooses the $100 plan and runs out, can they add another $100 from financial aid once the term has started?
- There will only be one opportunity at the start of the term to use financial aid monies for the Dining Dollars. After the term starts, any remaining credits that a student has after covering tuition, fees, etc., is given back to the student in a refund check so there will no longer be any financial aid funds available.
- How far will $125 go?
- This all depends on how much a person is buying in the Café and Daily Grind. However, as a reference, $125 would buy the equivalent of about 17 lunches at $7 each which would cover almost all of the lunches a 10-week student would need for a term if they come to campus two days/week.
- Will the menu be posted online or on socials?
- Yes. Also, on days when we know the Skylight Café will be closed due to an event and students will be encouraged to use the Daily Grind instead, this information will be posted online.
- Are there meal options that cater to dietary needs, i.e. halal, kosher, food allergies, vegetarian, vegan?
- We may not have every dietary or allergy need covered, but there will be vegetarian and other options every day.
- Can food from the Skylight Café be taken to-go?
- Yes
- Does the Skylight Café offer open seating for community members who bring an outside lunch and want to eat in community with students/employees who purchase a Skylight Café meal?
- Yes
- If I have a meal plan at the University Center, can that meal plan also be used at the Skylight Café or the Daily Grind or vice-a-versa?
- No. These are separate and distinct operations.
