Federal Court Ruling on State Aid and Residency
We understand that many students, families, faculty, staff, and members of the National Louis University community may have questions and concerns following the recent federal court ruling concerning Illinois laws governing tuition and financial aid eligibility.
National Louis University is carefully reviewing the court’s decision and its potential implications. We are also working with legal counsel and other higher education partners to better understand what the ruling may mean for our students and our University.
Our immediate priority is to provide accurate information and clear guidance as additional details become available. Because NLU’s fall term begins on September 21, 2026, we have the benefit of additional weeks to carefully assess the situation before making any final decisions. We will use that time to understand the legal and regulatory landscape, consider the impact on our students, and determine the most appropriate path forward.
Throughout this process, National Louis University remains committed to expanding educational opportunity, supporting student success, and ensuring that our students have the resources and support they need to pursue their educational goals. We will continue to make decisions consistent with our mission, our values, and applicable federal and state law.
We recognize that uncertainty can be difficult, and we will share additional information with the NLU community as it becomes available. In the meantime, we encourage students and families with questions to remain patient and know that we will communicate any direction as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carefully navigate this developing situation. Our commitment to our students and to providing access to a high-quality education remains unwavering.
